Whether you know it or not TRANSHUMAN the next book written by Sir Jonathan Hickman (and drawn by me) is coming out next March and is in January Previews (so yeah, it could be a good time to coerce your local dealer in ordering tons of copies).
Here is some art to start things up:
Hope you dig it massively (and text will make it so much better).

Do you like it?
I think it's completely different from what Jonathan usually do (and I think that's what he wanted), and since the tone of the story (humor!) is different too, it's better suited.
I tried to avoid any look that would be too close to what Jonathan is known for, and it wasn't easy nailing the style down. Actually the submission to Image looked very different. I also did a lot of research on the color, to try to find that '70s style documentary yellowed dirty film stock' look while still looking painterly and not overly digital (for some reason I thought an organic look would work better for this story). It's also pretty far from the style I'm using on the other books I'm doing at the same time. |

Hi JM,
It looks great! It looks like there is an awful number of characters in this story though.
I really enjoyed a lot TNN and the first issue of Pax Romana and would love to hear about the story too to have a better idea of how the art fit with it.
Since you talk about your work on color, computer screen is may be not the best way to "judge" but it looks very interesting, especially with your explanations (the main reference coming to my mind when talking about organic color is Guillaume Sorel on Algernon Woodcock). I don't have the impression it looks digital. What is bugging me a little bit more is the work on light effects that looks more digital. It's hard to tell on screen though and it looks like it comes more from the characters (hair and faces especially) than from the backgrounds and objects, which look amazing by the way.
Looking forward to March.
PS: Got an idea of the story on your blog which quotes an interview of Jonathan with Newsrama :
| JH wrote: | | Transhuman is a mockumentary about genetic engineering. It’s completely different from any of the other books I’ve done. It start off with the innovation of creating a genetically engineered “product,” then takes you through building a business, the IPO, the marketing wars, but poking fun at it in that sort of Christopher Guest Best in Show way." |
Still sounds kind of mysterious to me but I don't like to know too much before reading so I will wait to read issue #1 in March.

| Yeah, this is looking good. It may just be me, but you can tell it's going for a mockumentary style from the framing and such. Nice job. It's going to be very interesting seeing how Jon's writing works on something that's increasingly less and less what we currently know him for in the coming months. |

| Second time I have seen this art (love that fact you are hitting a few other message boards) and I have to say I am more psyched than the first time I saw it. It is on my order list and I am ready --- bring it on. |

Thanks Brikhed! I'm trying what I can to promote the book, showing people what it looks like, before we show them what it reads like. |
