I am looking to get a action figure of The Savage Dragon but i can't decide which one to get, so i figured if the creator answered i could get the better of the three
so which one is better the animated series version byplaymates, the McFarlane version, or the recently released Marvel Toys version?

I actually like the Mcfarlane one the best. The body shape is dead on.

I'd like it too if the damn thing didn't keep falling over. Razz

The head on the Battle-damaged Dragon from Playmates was really good--the paint was pretty bland and odd--he looked wall-eyed. But otherwise--it was pretty nice.

McFarlane's Dragon is the best otherwise--the figure is outstanding--the detail is terrific--but the face is not dead on.

I'm not thrilled with the new one. It took forever to get it to be as good as it is--but I'm not too taken with it. It does move well though. Todd's was practically a statue.

I don't mind figures that are more like statues. It's not like i really play with them--they just sit on my shelf. Maybe if I was a kid I'd like the figures with more articulation. Then again, I grew up with Star Wars and He-man figures....

i think the newest one actually mimics your art style a lot better than any of the previous versions. obviously the playmates version was based on the animated series, but the mcfarlane version should have looked more like your vision, and it seemed more like jim lee's version for some reason. true, the LCBH version could be a bit better, but i think it's the most successful over-all.

as for articulation, i think the more articulation there is, the more cool poses you can put the figure in when it sits on your shelf. Wink

I don't really think the new one looks that great. It looks like they used female legs for his legs because they're so skinny.

If you want articulation, probably the new one (haven't seen it with my own eyes yet though, only pictures), if you want something that looks good on your shelf, the McFarlane Toys one. Personally, I think the new figure looks fugly, but I've always preferred looks over articulation because obviously the figures are mostly display items to me.

i don't know about that... do you have one? i got it a week or so ago, and i think it's a perfect representation of the proportions.

Star Wars figures are basically statues too.
I grew up with GI Joes. Which could do damn near anything.

Last images I saw in the newest Toyfare looked like they had used the same legs as Witchblade.

I plan on stopping by a store to see if they have any later though.

So I got to see the SD figure and while I think the legs are still a little skinny, I think the figure looks decent. I saw it at a Walmart that wasn't a supercenter so I held off on buying it because we had to get groceries and I figured the other Walmart we went to would have em. They didn't even have pegs for em. DOH.

I'd like a Superpatriot too.

Not anymore, they aren't. You should check out some of the ones from the last few years - a lot of G.I. Joe-level articulation. And it blends in beautifully with the sculpt.
