Oregon and Washington (state) seem to have everything going for them lately. Perhaps I should move?
Jim, what made you want to do the "living history" thing?
This reminds me a bit about something they have in a part of Australia where you can "check out" a person as a "living book" for some local history. _________________ "Stylistically excessive"

I'm not sure what you mean.
It's a gallery show.
If I can get it together, we'll try to do a photo tour after it goes up.

wow that's pretty cool. You must be riding high. I think you should ham it up at the show. Wear a beret and a scarf and carry a chihuaua.

I thought this meant Jim would be wearing this get-up:
Sounds like a lot of fun. Have a great show! |

I'm going to upload this today because slave-driver Kris has me actually doing some work (sigh) and I doubt I'll get to it otherwise!!
A VIRTUAL TOUR.
We're going to travel counter-clockwise around the room. We didn't get a shot of EVERY piece, but this should give you a good idea. The show was hung by Show coordinator Molly Lindsay and Aaron Valentino. Their idea was to do a theme for each wall and to set frames up so they resembled comic panels.
First on our right as we enter the gallery is the Guardians wall.
On the far left is the cover to Guardians of the Galaxy #5--which was inked by Todd McFarlane (which we didn't get a solo shot of). Sorry this one is so blurry.
Double page spread (pages 12-13) from Guardians #25
On the left is page 31 from GOTG #16 and to it's right is page 5 from GOTG #24.
The Guardians wall leads us to the ink wall:
On top is a piece from Jack Kirby's Heroes and Villains (page 215) with my inks over the King.
Below is my pencils inked by Colleen and Anita Doran from Images of A Distant Soil (page 22)
Next we come to the Bruce wall:
All 26 pages, plus a few of the colored pages all tacked up with Christmas ornament push pins (a fortuitous accident on the gallery's part, but one that worked well and fit in with the theme of the book)
Turning the corner from the Bruce wall, we hit the normalman wall:
To the far left is the cover for normalman-Megaton Man. I can't list all of the artists represented on this cover--but every single character was drawn by their original creator, most at Wondercon '94. For a closer look, you may have to get The Complete normalman.
To it's right is page 6. Not only does it include our stars; Flaming Carrot by Bob Burden, Megaton Man by Don Simpson, Mr. Spook by Larry Marder and Capt. Everything by me, but you'll also see Jeff Smith, Scott McCloud, Scott Saavedra, James Owen, Mike Allred, Bob Crabbe, Batton Lash and Rick Veitch on the page!
Bottom left we have page 16 from the normalman 20th Anniversary Special with one of my favorite characters from the series, Man-Man (pronounced Mon-Man) "Best super-power EVER!"
And, finally, from the back cover of normalman #11, Nasty Girl penciled by George Perez and inked by me.
From the normalman wall, we turn to the Image wall. The only one we don't have a close-up of is the cover from the ShadowHawk one-shot on the right (which was also used in the Image Comics hardcover).
This double pager of Midevil Spawn came from Altered Image #3 (pages 2-3)
Page 47 from ShadowHawk-Vampirella
And the cover for the aforementioned Image Comics Hardcover. Erik inked the Dragon, while Todd inked Marc and me.
The image wall leads us to the Sonic wall:
The piece you can't see, due to the overlays, is the cover for Sonic Super-Special #6 which featured the Image-Sonic cross-over!
This double pager (pages 4-5) was in Sonic Super-Special #10. Every single screen has an alternate Sonic in it.
This from Knuckles #22 (page 9)
Walking across the room, we come to the non-comics walls:
This tribute to John Lennon was done when I first started messing with Photoshop.
The Blue Lady is a contour drawing
And Standing Man a life study done in ink wash.
We turn the corner to the final wall. On the far right is the A Touch of Silver wall:
Above is the splash page from ATOS #6 (lots of folks tell me I should employ this style more often)
On the bottom is page 5 from ATOS #2. Up because Molly liked the dialog between Timmy and Debbie.
Immediately to the left is the Drawing From Life wall:
Starting at the far left is the cover for the upcoming Vignettes: The Director's Cut. The piece also served as the gallery showcard.
The original cover of DfL #1, with the comic placed inside of the frame so folks could see how much is added with color and logos.
To it's right is Sem-ANT-Ics, one of Kris' favorite pages from DfL #2
And to it's right, the cover for DfL #2, with comic inserted.
Far right, bottom row is page3 from "A Day At the Beach" (DfL #1)
Page 1 from "Do You Want This Job or Not?" (DfL #2) is in the middle bottom row (sorry it's so damn blurry!)
And finally, page two from "First Day" (DfL #1)
Finally a few shots from opening night:
That's Dear Dracula's own Josh Williamson and his lovely finance, Danielle (hope I spelled that right!)
Anina Bennette, Dark Horse's David Scroggy and me outside.
Gallery curator Kaebel with Andrea, Shannon Stewart and Kai Lindsay.
Paul Guinan talks with Stumptown founder Indigo and Kaebel.
And finally, me with Paul Guinan, Molly, Matthew Clark and Anina as the night comes to a close.

That's pretty awesome. Did you enjoy it or are you one of those self conscious people who feels embarassed by that kind of attention?

I am so FREAKING glad that you posted those pictures. You've given me something nice to look at to take the edge off my case of the post-holiday Mondays.

I'm not really one for the spotlight, no.
But, when I have to, I'm able to put myself out there and do the whole "meet and greet and public speak" thing.

That's Kaebel.
Portland hosts a lot of costume theme days. Last month it was Pirates, this month cyber-punks.
Hundreds of people dress in costume and do a bar crawl all day downtown.
Gotta love it.

Whose idea was using the comic spinner as a display stand? Pass along my kudos. Never thought I'd see one in a museum however considering the subject matter, it fits well.
