just got it litteraly a half-hour ago and read it on the way to work.

the art and design are astonishing. the writing is absolutely up to the level I expect from you. I admire the way you completely avoid talking down to the reader. that takes some balls, especially if you're not a proven quantity in the business.

I guess I had assumed mars was the guy fighting in the preview. I sort of like that look a bit better than the one he has, but I can see wanting to hit the superman notes a bit harder. all the character designs are really good though. praetor is it? the guy who looks like he's wearing a lizard skin mask? really, really cool design.

more when I read it again carefully. good job, lads. worth the wait.

I will jump in and say the same - I bought it and flipping through it was amazing. I look forward to sitting down and reading it tonight. It might be a little early but congrats to JH and Ryan for putting out a visually stunning book.... look to be back in the near future and tell you it was well written too (I hope Rolling Eyes ).

Seriously though guys nice work.

ZOMGZ!!!
BEST
COMIC
EVER!

Okay, maybe too much praise? But, no, after reading it twice now, I can say I have been waiting my whole life to read a [new] comic this good. From now on, I demand that ALL comics contain the following elements to be acceptable

1) Take place in Future
2) a post-apocalyptic future with at least two billions of people dead
3) has a super hero who is super strong & can fly
4) has a protagonist who is super smart, rich, and can see into future
5) has a sweet flashback to the past
6) and another sweet flashback to an Alien invasion
7) introduces/features MORE superheroes
Cool has British comedic relief, and/or mocks Canada
9) has Space Travel
10) with a giant Alien armada (artist must draw at least 1,000 space ships)

And I will not even mention the now mandatory use of the word "beg" that all comics must meet. That said, these demands laid down, it is clear that Red Mass for Mars is the ONLY comic worth a damn. And I haven't even talked about how mind blowlingly awesome the Art was. I mean SO awesome. Mr Hickman, Mr Bodenheim, my hat off to you both! If you, sirs, make four issues this good I will mail you my hat.

The art is brilliant. The writing is spectacular. Can't wait for more. I have to go read it again now.

OK I have finally read this and I must say it is as good as advertised, if not better. I love the story and the early development of the key characters. The arrogance and smugness of our future seeing story telling (it is not told in a conceeded manner but rather a matter of fact manner - brilliant). The pacing is really great and you tell a lot of story in a short amount of time (and this time I think you actually used less words). I did not truly know what to expect with the future feel to this, and I was not expecting the superhero angle, but you continue to deliver.

Ryan - fabulous art man you really nailed this perfectly. I hope that you are still planning on hitting Wizard World Chicago because I would love to hunt you down for a sketch. You really did a great job on the book and I am looking forward to the next three issues.

Is Red Mass similar to Pax that this could be part of a larger story told in other minis or will this be four and done?

I did notice one thing, I believe but correct me if I am wrong, that made me feel good about my issues when I write. Spell check will tell you a word is spelled correct even if it is the wrong word. On one page you say something about talking to your "colleges" and I think it was meant to be "colleages". Seriously I am nitpicking here and you can tell me to srew off if needed... because the writing was top notch.

I have all things Jonathan Hickman on my pull list and don't second guess that decision for a second.

He is "writting" the book Very Happy I'm sure that this minor oversight will be adjusted properly for the trade.

Well I know there have been other "corrections" in the past... I was just hoping to be lucky enough to find the one this time around. It is the Hickman version of "Where's Waldo" (that Waldo guy is always hiding in the last place you would ever look)

My bad, just couldn't imagine anyone putting their face down there. I would be afraid K-Fed would jump out and steal my watch.

Yeah. I could not believe how much story you got in here with so few words. Hooray for subtext & implication! No, not hooray: thanks! Thanks! That is the opposite of looking down on your audience. That is respecting me (us). Nice. Plus, you made it a superhero book. I consider that pandering. You are simultaneously respecting and pandering to me. God, this feels so good. Usually my panderification is condescendifying.

Like this whole Red Hulk fiasco. Just because I liked Red Mountain Dew (for the novelty!) doesnt mean it will work for the Hulk. But oh, I did buy the first two issues (I'm such a douche for that). But I thought that if I wanted to see people bunch each other in the face, I had to take the drop in quality and respect. No. Apparently I can be pandered to & respected. I am going to start a hat collection for you guys. What size heads you got? I'm 7 3/4"
