These pages were a blast to write, having to shift my normally filthy bloodstained mind to a simpler time - the 1960s! Simpler? Yeah, right! Check out what how Astroman ended up crashing into 2005 Detroit on the last page of issue one by seeing what happened when America's greatest heroes, The Association, intervened in the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The solicitation:

Crash landing in twenty first century Detroit, horrified hero discovers the Intimidators decimating the robot mafia and since he can't beat them, he must join them! Attractive readers preorder copies and learn why Astroman is America's... Last Best Hope! Part Two!

"Please make sure your retailer knows you want this book!"

Sure, you've heard this statement a hundred times now from people like me who are putting out books that aren't selling by the 10s of thousands. But how many people actually go to their retailer and request books like these be ordered in large enough quantities so that you can get a copy, then turn on a friend who can get a copy and so on and so forth?

Diamond sold out of #1 of the first Lions, Tigers and Bears series in three weeks. They sold out of #2 in 3 days and they sold out of #3 in about 3 hours.

Sure that's great to see the book sell so well, but it would have been far better if enough copies were preordered to keep it in stock at Diamond through the entire run so anyone who wanted copies at any time could walk into their local comic shop or surf over to their favorite online retailer and pick up a single issue or the whole series.

So, while we really want to see the second series sell as well as the first, we really think everyone would be far happier if the book never sells out, because YOU went to your retailer and demanded they preorder enough copies to keep it in stock for as long as you or anyone you know might want to turn someone on to the story.

That brings us back to the beginning and back to that same supplication you've heard/read a hundred times now:

Please make sure your retailer knows you want this book!

Thanks for your support,
Mike Bullock

P.s. Happy Holidays to you and yours from everyone at

Thomas Jane signing

I just wanted to relay a recap of the signing with Thomas Jane from Peter Dixon of Paradise Comics:

"We had scheduled the signing between 5pm and 7pm. The line up at the store started around 4:15 we had a great crowd Thomas Jane showed up right on time at 5:00 he signed until 7:15. The signing went incredibly well, and he signed everything put in front of him. Everyone seemed very excited about Bad Planet, and the questions about the development of the book and the future story line were the first thing everyone wanted to know. He was a great guest very personable and took the time to answer any question anyone had, he even spoke about his own comic collection. Tom also posed for photos with everyone who wanted a photo. The only break he took was for an interview with Space TV. We were lucky to have him and everyone had a great time."

Here's a couple photos, one signing for fans, one posing with Peter:

Will this make you want to buy a t-shirt?

ART: The visual & emotional depth of Runes of Ragnan

As the writer of RoR, it is vital that the characters have depth. On the surface, this is a brutal book dealing with battle, blood, death, and eternal physical conflict. However, when you read further into the series, this is a title that delves into the human condition as well. It examines where we are as a species and where we yearn to go.

I wanted to offer a look at the visual depth that will grace the pages of RoR #3.

The core team (Josh Medors on pencils & Jay Fotos on colors) delivers in every way:

BUT, buried at the heart of issue #3, Bud Cook (3 pages) reveals a different side to these characters and the storyline:

Yes, this is a story of warriors. But it is also a story of love, happiness, loss, sorrow, vengeance...it is the entire spectrum of human existence spanning more than 1,000 years of history. It explores those things that matter most, and collides with them head on.

If you haven't given Runes of Ragnan a chance, read the ENTIRE first issue for FREE online at:
Image Comics Online

This is a title that needs your support, so if you like what you see, please let your local comic shop know!

Thanks,
Ty Gorton
Writer and Co-Creator

Suburban Glamour wallpaper

Here's some wallpaper based on the cover of Suburban Glamour. The pink loses a little vibrancy in RGB but I think it still looks pretty cool.

And the actual cover art!

ShadowHawk #8 and Intimidators #1 at your LCS today!

Shadowline has two titles at your LCS today! ShadowHawk #8 and Intimidators #1.

ShadowHawk #8 features the last issue of Ted Wing, and the last issue before the start of a brand new arc, which will be the turning point for the entire series thus far. Stay tuned for announcements on who the new penciler and colorist are! To whet your appetite for the highly anticpated #9, here is a sample page from it:

As for Intimidators, if you picked up #1 today, make sure you head on over to Jim Valentino's message board and post your thoughts on it! #2 will be comin' at ya next month, revealing more about the man outta time--Astroman! Astroman tells the story of where he came from, and YOU get to read about it JUST LIKE YOU WERE THERE! The art reflects the time period, cleverly penciled, inked and colored with a painstakingly aged look! You don't want to miss a single issue of this, believe me! Here's a flashback page from #2 that features Silver Age ShadowHawk and his sidekick Squirrel:

Frank Cho WOMEN art book

This is the cover to my upcoming art book collecting some of my best females drawings.

It's called WOMEN: SELECTED DRAWINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS. It'll be out in April.

I originally started this cover piece as a watercolor painting. Those who use watercolor will know that watercolor is an unforgiving medium. You have to be precise and fast. Halfway through it I screwed up. So instead of starting over, I simply switched to oil painting. I just used the unfinished watercolor image as my base drawing and went over it with oil painting.

I was going for that romantic "J.W. Waterhouse" nature nymph with a crown of flower genre look. But I didn't realize until I was halfway through that I just painted Poison Ivy. ;-)

You can see the full uncensored painting on my homepage www.libertymeadows.com

Hysteria: One Man Gang - teaser

Here's another piece that was going to become a poster, but became a teaser image instead. Hope you dig it.

Oh, and the new Image solicitations are online. SO if you're at all into Hysteria it's time to do your part and ask your comic shop to pre-order the first issue for you!

Here's a flyer you can take to your local comic shop, just to show them you mean business ;)

Thanks for all the love and support!

Best,
Mike

PS - Image now has a 5 page, lettered preview for #1 on their homepage. Check it out!

New Rex Mundi logo

I'm proud to showcase the new Rex Mundi logo right here on the Image blog! Many thanks to JG Roshell at Comicraft for doing such a wonderful job and for treating Rex Mundi like royalty. It's exactly the logo I've always wanted.

It'll debut on the front cover of Issue 16 -- just saw the proofs this weekend!

Here Come THE INTIMIDATORS!

This Wednesday marks the release of the first issue of Shadowline's new action/comedy superhero book, THE INTIMIDATORS, written by yours truly!

To celebrate, here are the covers for issues #4 and 5 - issue 4 appears in this week's copy of Diamond PREVIEWS catalog, with a cover by pal and genius MIKE OEMING!

Enjoy!
